Carrier Socket Assemblies' Rigidity Solves Processing Problems

Aug. 1, 1998

Thanks to a family of ultra-low profile, rigid carrier socket assemblies, designers have a convenient means to loading groups of socket contacts onto pc boards. The two-part assemblies are said to offer significant advantages compared with flexible carriers. Their rigidity enables pick-and-place processing. It also ensures proper pin alignment, as well as more accurate pin-to-pin location. An added side benefit is additional protection for the assembly during transit. During soldering and cleaning processes, the rigid carrier keeps the terminals firmly in place and protects the multi-finger contacts from contamination. Assemblies are offered in a wide variety of DIP, SIP and PGA configurations with choices of terminal styles and plating options.
