The integration on-chip of a multi-master I2C controller, up to 12 programmable 8-bit pulse width modulation (PWM) channels, an enhanced watchdog timer, and a variety of other performance-enhancing circuitry is expected to propel the TSC8051i2 8-bit microcontroller into a broad spectrum of consumer, communication and industrial applications. Furthermore, being that the controller is based on a fully static 8-bit 80C51 CPU core, the device can also take advantage of the extended software and hardware development support already available on the market for C51 architecture devices. Emulator and development boards also are available.Other features of the new embedded microcontroller that are seen simplifying designs and reducing pc board parts counts include: 8 Kbytes of ROM or OTP EPROM and 256 bytes of RAM, both expandable externally to 64 Kbytes; two standard 16-bit timer/counters; a programmable serial port; six interrupt sources- two each for external inputs and timers and one each for UART and I2C- two power saving control modes; watchdog and power-fail resets; on-chip oscillator for crystal or ceramic resonator; and up to 32 programmable I/O lines, depending on package. The 8-bit µC is available in commercial and industrial and standard (4.5V to 5.5V) and low-voltage (2.7V to 5.5V) versions, with operating frequencies of 0 to 16 MHz at 3V and 0 to 24 MHz at 5V. Packaging for the C51 microcontroller includes 40-pin DIPs, 44-pin PQFPs and 52-pin PLCCs.
