Called the industry's fastest CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) chips, the CR3470/75 devices offer 40X read and 10X write speeds. As a result, the ICs are said to enable CD-RW drives to out-perform Zip drives and equal the performance of high-speed CD-ROM drives.

In addition, the CR3475 is equipped with an integrated DVD port that lets the device connect directly to a DVD data recorder, creating a new class of DVD drive with CD-RW. When combined with an MPEG-2 decoder board or a software MPEG-2 decoder, these DVD drives with CD-RW offer users 670 Mbytes of storage and the ability to read DVD content with a CD-RW drive.
