Making use of buffers and an on-board microcontroller, the RAMPack B module allows addressable access to the RAM using only one or two I/O lines. An automatic baud rate detection scheme allows the user to use a variety of baud rates without setting hardware jumpers. The module, which maintains 8k x 8 bytes of RAM, supports 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, and 19200 baud rates. The 8k x 8 bytes of static RAM comes socketed. If non-volatile RAM is required, a NVRAM can be inserted into the socket. A software command allows the RAMPack B to be expanded to handle 32k x 8 RAM chips. Because of its small size, the device can be inserted directly into circuit boards for production runs, or into breadboards for easy prototyping.
