Complete power solutions for motherboards that must conform to Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) power management specs are said to be provided by three new chips. These power controllers include the HIP6501A, a triple linear controller, and HIP6500 and HIP6502, which are designed to regulate and control five voltage planes. The multiple-output regulators can replace as many as 29 to 35 external components used in discrete ACPI implementations, thereby significantly reducing pc board requirements for the implementations and improving system reliability. They also offer soft-start, under-voltage, over-current, and a number of other system monitoring and protection features.HIP6501A regulates the voltage planes for: USBs, keyboards and mouses; peripheral component interface slots; and RDRAMs and SDRAMs. In addition, HIP6500 also regulates clock voltages and HIP6502 combines two different voltage planes in one output pin and provides individual outputs for motherboards using both RDRAMs and SDRAMs. HIP6501A is housed in 16-pin narrow-body SOICs, while HIP6500 and HIP6502 reside in 20-pin narrow-body SOICs.
