Two new large-character LCD modules, the SI4790 and SI4305, include an LCD controller and keyboard decoder that are accessed via a single RS-232 serial interface. This arrangement reduces cabling costs and software overhead for point-of-sale, remote messaging, and customer access terminals. Two alphanumeric models are available, 4 x 40 (SI4790) and 2 x 40 (SI4305). Both use a simple command set. The keyboard interface can decode up to 240 keys. Options include auto-contrast, on-board negative supply, and LED backlighting and color (yellow-green, red, amber). Prices start at $65 each/1000.
