Conduction-Cooled cPCI SBC Claims Highest MIPS/In.2 Rating

The CompactCore '119 single-board computer (SBC) is said to offer the most MIPS per square inch of board space of any open-architecture, conduction-cooled SBC available today. Measuring only 100 mm x 160 mm in a 3U, cPCI form factor, the board is ideal for space- and weight-constrained systems that require high-performance processing with low power dissipation. The new SBC employs an architecture in which its L2 cache connects directly to the processor via the backside 64-bit L2 cache bus. In addition, a bridge chip interfaces the PowerPC processor bus to the 32-bit PCI bus and connects as the memory controller. Through the bridge chip, the processor gains access to 32 MB of 64-bit wide flash, the 64-bit synchronous DRAM, and the 32-bit PCI bus. Up to 64 MB of synchronous DRAM are available directly on the main board without the need for a mezzanine card. Available in November 2000, pricing starts at $7,000 in quantity.
