Single IC Enables Multiple A/V Functions

The USBvision NT1006 chip enables streaming of video, audio, and data simultaneously to the computer through the USB port. With both a USB interface and a serial interface, the device enables manufacturers to offer a single camera that can operate as a PC digital video camera, as a standalone digital video camera, and as a digital still camera with audio recording capabilities. Features include complete plug-and-play operation, frame rate motion of 30 frames per second at CIF resolution, and 15 frames per second at VGA resolution. In still camera mode, the device enables capture and flash memory storage of digital pictures with resolutions up to 640 x 480 pixels and audio clips. Software drivers for Windows 98/2000/CE, and Macintosh are included and an evaluation board and reference designs for a variety for devices are available.
