Constructed with flat precision-formed contacts and a high-temperature-rated, glass-filled thermoplastic insulation material, the SM7012-CRx Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) connector features a blind-mating alignment system. It provides automatic sequencing of removal or application of ground, power and signal connections, thereby ensuring reliable hot-swapping. High-speed networking applications, such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and WANs, are expected to provide the bulk of the demand for the connector, which is available with 0.062" or 0.093" pc board tail lengths. The SM7012-CRx connector also has selective gold-plated contacts and includes an integral metal hold-down strap for protecting against ESD. Price is about $2.75 each/10,000.
