Extending just 4 mm above the surface of a pc board and weighing a mere 2.6g, the SR800SMT is believed to be the industryÕs first surface-mountable speaker. The low-profile speaker also occupies only 20 x 20 mm of board real estate and is said to deliver impressive performance specs. For example, at a distance of 0.5 meter and operating at frequencies ranging from 600 Hz to 11 kHz, the SMT speaker delivers a sound pressure level (SPL) of 74 ±3 dB.Made of a tough, high-temperature, glass-reinforced plastic, the speaker uses a rare earth magnet and has three solder contact points to reportedly provide highly reliable connections. It also has a heat deflection temperature of 289¡C, a power rating of 100 mW nominal and 200 mW max., a voice coil impedance of 8½ ±15%, a resonant frequency of 1,000 Hz ±20%, and can withstand 10 drops from 75 cm in height onto a concrete floor. Applications for the SMT speaker include cell phones, PDAs, GPS devices, and voice-activated equipment. Price: $1.72 each/5,000 (minimum order).
