Additional I/O capabilities have been engineered into Little Board and CoreModule single-board computers (SBCs) and CPU modules via A2D (analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog), FPGA (field-programmable gate array), GPIO (general-purpose input/output), and UART serial port MiniModules. Reducing the size of PC/104 stacks for I/O-intensive applications, each MiniModule supports up to 150 configurable I/O signals and plugss in on the top of the CPU boards and SBCs using the PCI and ISA buses via PC/104 and PC/104-Plus connectors. The connectors plug in horizontally, rather than vertically like slot cards, to reduce height and mounting requirements. Prices start below $100 each in production volumes.
