Designed specifically for the home DVD player market, the SP8042 photo detector IC features seven channels, 55-MHz bandwidth, and a low, 10.5 mA operating current. With a low, -80 dBm output noise level, the photo detector allows for data recovery at very low light levels and supports lower reflectivity DVD+RW/-RW media. A built-in media switch selects one of two photo detector arrays for either CD or DVD. The device is available in 16-pin COB packaging for $0.70 each/100K, as well as in wafer form for $0.55. An evaluation board is also available. SIPEX CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 934-7500.
