A new point-of-load dc/dc power converter has been designed with lead-free assembly, and can be attached to motherboards using lead-free solder. The LSM-10A non-isolated converter has a standard 6-pin SMT form factor. Rated at 10A, this converter’s fixed-frequency design of 100 to 300 kHz is accurate to ±1.25%, while efficiency is 96%, and noise is as low as 30 mVp-p. Typically, the LSM-10A does not require external support components, heat sinks, supplemental air flow, or EMI filtering. Input voltage ranges are centered around 3.3V, 5V, or 12V. Nine output voltages range from 0.8V to 5V, and enable all 24 models to address virtually all contemporary applications. The product measures 33 mm x 13.5 mm x 8.6 mm and includes on/off control, output sense, and Vout-trim functions. Surface-mount LSM-10A’s all carry high-temperature, plastic heat shields. Either removed and discarded or recycled after assembly, the heat shields maintain a 50°C differential between the LSM-10A’s SMT components and the hot circulating air of a reflow oven. Additional performance features include a line/load regulation of ±0.1%/±0.25% max., step response of 100 µs, stable no-load operation for load circuits going into sleep mode, and the ability to start-up monotonically and operate without incident into a pre-biased load. Pricing starts at $17.90 each, or $9.95 each/10,000. DATEL INC., Mansfield, MA. (800) 233-2765.
