A new silicon-based RF capacitor with an 0201 footprint is expected to reduce the size and improve the performance of wireless communications products. The single-side contact configuration of the HPC0201A is designed to eliminate the "tombstoning” problem on board assemblies that occurs when using conventional capacitors with wraparound terminations. The smooth, flat silicon surface of the HPC0201A simplifies the pick-up step in pick-and-place operations, making board assembly faster and more efficient. Measuring just 0.61 mm x 0.30 mm x 0.23 mm, the part comes in 44 standard capacitance options ranging from 0.4 to 39 pF with tolerances of ±1% or 0.05 pF. Available ratings are 6V, 10V, 16V and 25V. Typical pricing is $0.058 each for devices with ±2% tolerance in production quantities. VISHAY INTERTECHNOLOGY INC., Malvern, PA. (610) 644-1300.
