The company's fourth generation, multimode 3G WCDMA/EDGE cellular RF subsystem promises to shrink board space by 70%, allowing users to create slim, elegant handsets. Compared to current subsystems requiring greater than 100 components, the dual-mode RF cellular subsystem provides a three-to-one component reduction in less than 649 mm2 of board space. This opens the field for adding features such as MP3 players, Bluetooth connectivity, digital cameras, DVB-H, and GPS. The subsystem integrates digital interfacing to the baseband processor for industry-wide compatibility and continues to support emerging standards such as DigRF. It consists of the MMM6007 tri-band WCDMA transceiver with digital interface, MMM6032 WCDMA power amplifier with power detection, MMM6000 quad-band GSM/EDGE transceiver with DigRF, and the MMM6029 GSM/EDGE power amplifier with power control.
