Squeezing into tight-quarter designs, the MSK5000 non-contact, linear rotary magnetic encoder employs a low-profile, self-adhesive magnetic band measuring 5-mm wide. The component is capable of producing resolutions to 1 μm directly from low-mass read heads and features programmable, real-time edge separation along with on-board status LEDs and a ride height run-out of 2 mm. The magnetic technology utilized by the part is said to offer advantages over optical systems, such as inherent contamination immunity, larger alignment tolerances, an extended temperature range, and lower costs.
