The result of a joint venture, a reference design is available that will extend 10-Gb/s transceiver performance into the industrial temperature range. The design teams the XFP PRO PCB layout and a low-power VSC7982 driver from Vitesse Semiconductor with the 1,310-nm 10T3081 TOSA un-cooled electroabsorption modulated- laser (EML) from Apogee Photonics to enable XFP, XENPAK, X2, and XPAK designs for industrial temperatures. The VSC7982 driver handles case temperatures up to 100°C while the EML sustains temperatures up to 95°C. Also employing a Vitesse VSC8239 dual signal conditioner and VSC7978 transimpedance amplifier IC, the reference design consumes less than 2.5W total, said to be lower than comparable DML solutions. The VSC7982 driver is available now, along with an evaluation board and the reference design with the 10T3081 TOSA EML. APOGEE PHOTONICS, Allentown, PA.
