A revamped version of the Gecko, an EPIC-format single-board computer, allows it to operate in temperatures ranging from -40° to +85°C, making it a viable choice for space-constrained designs with limited cooling. The design is based on the more-current AMD GX-500 processor, which offers 500-MHz performance while drawing about 1.5W of power, resulting in minimal heat dissipation with no need for a fan. Standard Gecko features include up to 512 MB of DDR RAM, integrated video with analog and LVDS flat-panel outputs, stereo line in/out, 10/100 Ethernet, analog and digital I/O, four USB ports, four COM ports, LPT and IDE interfaces, and a compact flash socket. Also, a PC/104+ site accommodates both PC/104 and PC/104+ modules for system expansion. Pricing starts at $673 in OEM quantities. VERSALOGIC CORP., Eugene, OR. (800) 824-3163.
