\[September 18, 2006\] The SE4120, emerging as the first Galileo-ready receiver IC for mass-market consumer electronics, exploits a software-based design to minimize board area and power consumption. This architectural approach also ensures support for future changes to wireless standards via software upgrades. An integrated low-noise amplifier delivers a gain of 18 dB with a noise figure of 1.6 dB without an active antenna. Operating from a 2.7V to 3.3V supply, power consumption is less than 10 mA. Other features include a linear AGC, PLL synthesizer, image-reject mixer, and a multi-bit a/d converter with low digital IF. Sampling is software configurable and includes support for low bandwidth serialized multi-bit I/Q outputs. With production set for Q1 2007 and available in a RoHS-compliant, 4 mm x 4 mm x 0.9 mm QFN MSL1 package, price is $3 each/100,000. SIGE SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Ontario, Canada. (613) 820-9244.
