For cost-sensitive apps, the MCF5223x family debuts as the first 32-bit MCUs with a Fast Ethernet controller, Ethernet PHY, and flash memory in a single-chip. The MCF5223x also includes a cryptographic acceleration unit and an instruction-level ColdFire co-processor. Another MCU family, the MCF5222x, offers the industry’s first 32-bit MCUs with integrated USB On-The-Go and flash memory. It allows two USB devices to communicate without a host interface, making it suitable for system-to-system communication applications. Both families employ CodeWarrior Development Studio as well as comprehensive design and evaluation platforms. These include the M52233DEMO, a functional demonstration board, and the M52235EVB, an evaluation board with a licensed special edition of CodeWarrior Development Studio. Samples of the MCF5223x and MCF5222x are available now, priced at $7.99 and $5.49 each/10,000, respectively. FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Austin, TX. (800) 521-6274.
