Catering to designers of battery-powered portables, two additional target boards, the T2012 and the MSP-Mojo, enhance the eZ430 development tool in a USB stick form factor, which is based on the MSP430 microcontroller (MCU). The T2012 pairs a MSP430F2012 with a 10-bit, 200 ksample/s a/d converter and the MSP-Mojo target board, from Quickfilter Technologies, features the QF1D512 512-tap, single-channel precision digital filter chip (FIR engine). The FIR engine allows developers to perform precision digital filtering for applications that include vibration monitoring, audio filtering, and medical-patient monitoring. The chip acts as a filter co-processor that offloads filtering tasks from the MCU and increases available bandwidth of the signal source. It is also said to reduce power draw and simplify coding. Prices for the T2012 and MSP-Mojo target boards are $10 and $39.95, respectively. The eZ430 development tool costs $20. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
