Promising to double the bandwidth of existing SPI-based Gigabit Ethernet MACs, the CS3472 MAC reportedly can simultaneously sustain line rate performance on all of its 24 ports. The device delivers quality of service guarantees by integrating rule-based layer 5 classifications, IPv6 & MPLS support, and a scheduler to enable bandwidth guarantees for critical traffic. It connects to a packet processor via a low-pin count Interlaken interface and reduces board complexity by allowing direct connection to optical SFP modules and copper PHYs with SMII links through integrated SerDes. Additionally, the CS3472 supports the latest metro network synchronization requirements. The CS3477 MAC is currently sampling. For more information, call CORTINA SYSTEMS INC., Sunnyvale, CA.
