With a high level of integration, the SH7262 and SH7264 series of SuperH 32-bit microcontrollers offer an extensive array of hardware functions and a 1-Mbyte on-chip SRAM. Depending on the model, the MCUs have 18 to 20 peripheral functions that can handle timing, communication, decompression, data conversion, and other tasks. The devices are optimized for digital audio systems, MP3 media player accessories, and graphical display systems, such as graphical dashboards for automotive and industrial man-machine interfaces. Typically, the only additional IC needed is a ROM for storing programs. Both series contain eight models, differentiated by temperature range and whether they have CAN or IEBus interfaces. The SH7262 chips come in a 176-pin QFP, and the SH7264 devices come in a 208-pin QFP. Prices start at $12 each for 10k pieces. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (888) 294-4558.
