For assembling circular connectors common to aerospace and other high-reliability applications, the Light Director system exploits light fibers driven by super-bright LED lamps to individually illuminate target cavities in the connector. Users enter a wire code on unconnected wires and a computer program turns on the appropriate fiber, thereby causing a flashing light to project from inside the target cavity guiding the user to the proper insertion point. Correct insertion is confirmed by the elimination of light from that location; whereas insertion into an incorrect location leaves the flashing light visible. The system also supports synthetic speech in English or Spanish to read the pin number to the user, further reinforcing the target location. Speech recognition is also available as an option permitting users to read wire codes to the system and eliminating the need for a keyboard or monitor. The Light Director is an accessory for the CableEye test system. For more details, call CAMI RESEARCH INC., Acton, MA. (800) 776-0414.
