The G201 3U CompactPCI Serial peripheral board, designed by MEN Micro, incorporates four front-end USB 3.0 host interfaces that are used to either connect fast USB 3.0 devices or extend USB 2.0 interfaces of CPU boards. Each port, connected via PCI Express, can handle data transfers of up to 5 Gbits/s per direction, a tenfold increase over USB 2.0 ports. The enhanced transfer speed enables the board to handle data-intensive applications, including connecting external storage media and high-speed cameras. The board is not only fast, the company says, but robust enough for harsh and mobile environments, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and a preparedness for conformal coating to protect against humidity and dust. Using the Standard-A connector for the USB ports, the 3.0 interfaces are backwards compatible to USB 2.0. Pricing for the G201 board is $384. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.
