Heralded by its maker as a much-needed tech breakthrough, the Aurora single-board computer (SBC) supports Intel’s 1.6-GHz Atom Z530 processor and uses a simple thermal design to reduce size, weight, power, and cost compared to legacy VME and PC/104 SBCs. It supports up to 2 GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, USB Flashdisk, Serial ATA, four RS-232 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, and both SUMIT-A and PC/104 ISA bus expansion. Compared to COM Express modules requiring a +12V input and full custom carrier card designs, Aurora operates off a single +5V input, yet still allows I/O customization via a plug-in SUMIT module. Volume pricing starts in the upper $400s each. DIAMOND SYSTEMS CORP., Mountain View, CA. (800) 367-2104.
