To accelerate solid-state lighting adoption, Cree’s next-gen XLamp XB-D LED promises to remove up-front system costs, considered a barrier to wider LED acceptance. As per Cree, the XB-D LED delivers twice the lumens-per-dollar of similar LEDs and comes in the industry’s smallest lighting-class footprint: 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm, 48% smaller than the XLamp XP package. It forecasts lower end-product prices by using three times fewer LEDs, three times fewer optics, and smaller circuit boards than current designs. Specs include up to 139 lumens and 136 lumens per Watt in cool white or up to 107 lumens and 105 lumens per Watt in warm white, both at 350 mA and 85°C. CREE INC., Durham, NC. (919) 313-5300.
