Brandishing Freescale Semiconductor’s new T4240 QorIQ processor, AcQ Inducom’s “Medusa” VPX3424 single-board computer (SBC) runs at up to 1.8 GHz and delivers up to 216-GFLOPS performance. The processor provides 12 dual-threaded e6500 cores up to 1.8 GHz, built-in AltiVec technology accelerators, 12 Gbytes of DDR3 RAM with error-correcting code (ECC), 2-Mbit FRAM, and up to 64 Gbytes of eMMC. The OpenVPX (VITA 65) 3U SBC integrates Xilinx’s Kintex-7, a user-programmable FPGA, and dozens of customizable OpenVPX user I/O pins. Due to a fast communication interface (4x PCIe) between the T4240 and FPGA, the FPGA can be used for pre-processing or adding extra functionality. Specifically, the board’s configurable data plane features 2x PCIe x4, 1x PCIe x8, or 1x PCIe x4 and Serial RapidIO x4. The control plane has 4x 1-Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T or 1000Base-KX). Also included are 4x 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GBase-KR) and 2x SATA 2.0 ports. Support for VxWorks, Integrity, PikeOS, and Linux is planned for the Medusa, as is an OS-less board-support package. A conduction-cooled, ruggedized REDI (VITA 48) variant of the SBC is available as part of the company’s upcoming OpenVPX-based small-form-factor system (VITA 75).
