Signal generators must be calibrated at regular intervals to stay within their numerous specs. The FSMR Measuring Receiver from Rohde & Schwarz can perform this calibration on the multiple signal-generator parameters and on variable attenuators without any additional hardware or software.

The unit combines a level calibrator, am/fm/pm modulation analyzers, an audio analyzer with total harmonic distortion and SINAD capability, an rf power meter, and spectrum analyzer functions. It comes in three frequency ranges: 20 Hz to 3.5 GHz, 26.5 GHz, and 50 GHz.

Measurements include output level accuracy, carrier frequency accuracy, setting accuracy of modulation depth and deviation, weighted and unweighted spurious modulation, and modulation frequency response, distortion, and frequency. Key parameters are traceable to NIST and other national standards organizations.

A comprehensive set of spectrum analysis capabilities includes detectors for RMS, peak (auto, maximum, and minimum), sample, average, and quasi-peak detection. Resolution filters range from 10 Hz to 50 MHz, and fast-Fourier-transform filters range from 1 Hz to 30 MHz. Standard electromagnetic-interference filters are 200 Hz, 9 kHz, and 120 kHz.

Linearity is ±0.015 dB (±0.005-dB deviation per 10-dB steps), and the measurement range is a wide 30 to +130 dB. Users can set the measurement bandwidth from 100 Hz to 10 MHz, eliminating the effects of frequency offset or residual fm of the generator under test.

Measurement of modulation depth, frequency deviation, and phase deviation is performed with a measurement uncertainty of less than 1%. Audio and demodulated signals can be displayed in both the frequency and time domain.

Prices for the FSMR Measuring Receiver start at $65,900. Delivery is in 12 weeks.
