Industrial And Instrumentation Marts Gain High-Brightness LCDs
A wide viewing angle and unusually high luminance are said to characterize two new liquid crystal displays (LCDs) targeted at manufacturers of ATMs, factory automation systems, amusement/entertainment systems and other industrial and instrumentation products. These new members of the Angleview family of thin film transistor (TFT) LCDs feature a viewing angle of 120° and an 18-bit color depth to define 262,144 colors. The TFT LCDs include the 10.4" VGA (640 x 480-pixel) resolution AA104VA01 and the 12.1" SVGA (800 x 600-pixel) resolution AA121SK02 displays. The 10.4" unit has a luminance spec of 450 nits (candelas per square meter), reportedly among the brightest in this class of displays. It also weighs only 550 grams and dissipates just 8.2W of power. The 12.1" display delivers 300 nits, which is said to be three times that of a typical CRT, and weighs 760 grams and dissipates 7.6W. Both LCDs are available in sample quantities.
