Software Utility Sets Up & Manages IR Connections

Nov. 1, 1999

Computer users can quickly and easily configure and manage infrared cordless data connections with IrDirector, a new software utility. The product automatically sets up connections for cordless connectivity- such as between an IR-enabled notebook PC and an IR-enabled electronic organizer- and also provides users with a display showing connection status. When supplied as part of the set-up software for handheld appliances, such as digital cameras, the utility also ensures that the majority of IR-enabled host PCs used with the handheld device will be properly configured for infrared communication. It initially configures the user's PC to ensure that it is properly set up for IR connectivity and to address port conflict problems. It further simplifies IR connectivity by displaying which applications are associated with each IR-enabled device and automatically launches the proper applications upon connection.
