In the MXED101 column driver IC, the organic light emitting diode (OLED) display industry reportedly has its first standard product. By operating at up to 30V, the new chip is said to greatly enhance the performance of OLED displays compared to devices currently used-- namely, low-voltage drivers developed for other display technologies.
Well-suited for use in products such as cell phones, PDAs, car navigation systems, and small TVs, the column driver can also be cascaded for use with larger displays. Other key features of the 192-column MXED101 include a bi-directional data transfer capability, programmable constant current output gain to ensure easy adjustment, option of using 3.3V or 5V logic supply voltage, and the ability to support RGB and monochrome displays.
