Spirit embarks as a compact industrial-grade ultrafast amplifier with software-adjustable repetition rates up to 1 MHz, making it desirable for medical-device and other material micromachining, nanostructuring, pump-probe experiments, and selected time-resolved science applications. It specifies an average power greater than 4W and provides automated adjustability over a repetition-rate range from 50 kHz to 1 MHz.  Sporting a rugged one-box design, the laser delivers 400-fs pulse widths with energy levels of 20 mJ per pulse. Spirit will be on display at SPIE Photonics West (booth #1301), San Francisco, CA, January 24 to 26.  NEWPORT CORP., Irvine, CA. (877) 835-9620.
