High-Power PoE Controller Meets Latest Standard

Oct. 8, 2008
Texas Instruments' TPS23754 high-power, Power-over-Ethernet controller offers over 90% power-conversion efficiency for dc-dc converter topologies.

Fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3at draft 4.0 standard, the integrated TPS23754 high-power, Power-over-Ethernet controller supports dc-dc converter topologies with greater than 90% power conversion efficiency. The device handles 13- or 26-W devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, or security cameras. The single-chip controller leverages a 100-V manufacturing process to provide a robust solution. Maximum continuous current is 825 mA, and the device is protected against current inrush and short circuits. The TPS23754 is available now in an HTSSOP-20 package for $1.90 each. Two other controllers are sampling now and will be available during the third quarter. The TPS23756 supports auxiliary input voltages as low as 12 V, allowing a designer to use popular, inexpensive 12-V wall adapters. The TPS23757 will support 13-W and below applications requiring higher efficiency dc-dc topologies. The TPS23756 will also cost $1.90 each, and the TPS23757 will cost $1.65. All prices are for quantities of 1000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
