Devices in a 600-V switching-mode power-supply (SMPS) IGBT family come with unclamped inductive switching (UIS) capability. These IGBTs deliver high current-density capability, which results in an increased power-supply power density. They're designed for power-supply circuits where voltage can increase for short periods of time due to line transients. They also can handle transients well above maximum breakdown voltage, and the UIS rating is achieved by optimizing the n-base region through a carefully controlled process. Pricing ranges from $0.92 to $2.05 each in 1000s.
