GaN Advances Bring the Power to Automotive, Data Center, and Audio Apps

March 16, 2023
GaN Systems highlights an array of applications that are addressed using gallium-nitride-based technology.

Check out more of our CES 2023 coverage.

James Witham, CEO of GaN Systems, gave me a tour of some of the company's technology and application spaces where its technology is being employed (see video above). Gallium nitride (GaN) enables designers to build smaller, more powerful amplifiers and power supplies. In fact, GaN-based power-supply chargers have taken over the marketplace.

Breaking the 100 W per cubic centimeter has been a boon to data-center power-supply solutions, too. One emerging area for GaN technology is in the automotive sector, especially electric vehicles.
