GOEPEL Speeds Boundary Scan for Multi-Board Designs

October 10, 2012. In cooperation with ASTER Technologies, GOEPEL electronic has developed a new version of the ScanVision tool suite for boundary scan design visualization. The further development solves the problem of multi-board design visualization at the layout and schematic level, enabling an improved level of productivity in project development as well as fault analysis at the production stage.

“The increasing penetration of boundary scan technology into testing complete systems puts new demands on visualization tools, which we are able to meet with our enhanced ScanVision tools,” said Bettina Richter, GOEPEL electronic’s marketing manager. “In addition to continuing the long-term cooperation with our partner ASTER, we facilitate the hierarchical utilization of boundary scan throughout the entire product life cycle.”

Christophe Lotz, President of ASTER Technologies, said, “ASTER is proud to have strong relationships with our strategic partners and have the opportunity to work together in developing advanced technology to meet the ever increasing demands of the Boundary Scan market.”

Basically, ScanVision consists of the three elements: Layout Visualizer, Schematic Visualizer, and Virtual Schematic Visualizer. All components are integral parts of the SYSTEM CASCON boundary-scan software, using a consistent project data base. This data base is generated by importing individual design data and interconnection referencing. For this purpose, appropriate tools are the CASCON Board Merger and CASCON Component Explorer.

Using this information provides opportunities for interactive cross-probing between schematic and layout; selective labeling of pins, components and circuits; and tracking of signal paths via multiple boards with dynamic switching. That enables operations such as test coverage analysis, hardware debugging, or graphical fault display above the board boundaries up to system level.

The enhanced ScanVision tools are integrated as standard starting from SYSTEM CASCON version 4.6.1 and are activated by the license manager like the system software. For customers with a valid maintenance contract the new features are free.
