Telit Module Supports 2G Chipset Technology for M2M
June 1, 2013. Telit Wireless Solutions, a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, has announced the introduction of its third-generation 2G-cellular module in the company’s xE910 product family. The GE910-QUAD V3 is a quad-band GSM/GPRS Class-10 product for integrators and OEMs starting or upgrading designs. Based on the market’s latest release-2G chipset, the new module is slated for long-term availability protecting design investments. The product, which also incorporates a TCP/IP stack and Python Script Language interpreter, is capable of running customer applications internally, including Internet connected ones. With no additional electronics required for a complete M2M solution, the GE910-QUAD V3 is suitable for bill-of-material (BOM) cost sensitive applications in automotive, telematics, automated meter reading, and other segments.
Targeted at applications requiring or benefitting from global coverage, the 850/900/1800/1900-MHz quad-band GSM/GPRS engine in the GE910-QUAD V3 is voice-capable, supporting both analog and digital (DVI) interfaces. It delivers GPRS Class-10, 3GPP Release 4-compliant data communications and is equipped with two ITU-T V.24 UART interfaces and 10 1.8-V I/O ports.
The embedded Python script interpreter allows the processing core in the cellular engine to run customer applications that can, among other things, access a companion Telit GNSS module directly for a two-component tracking device solution. The GE910-QUAD V3 is suitable for battery-powered device applications such as automated water and gas meter readers, because of its wide supply voltage of 3.2 to 4.5 V and ultralow standby current. For streamlined application development and system integration, the company offers RIL drivers for all major operating systems. With the new product, Telit is also targeting the usage based insurance, POS terminal, m-health, security alarm panel, and other low-speed-friendly application areas.
Dominikus Hierl, chief marketing officer at Telit Wireless Solutions, said, “Low-speed, data-burst applications continue dominating high-volume M2M. And when you add the features richness to long-term availability ensured by the use of industry’s latest release of GSM/GPRS chipset, the GE910-QUAD V3 becomes an easy decision for developers updating designs or starting new projects in these growing application areas.”
The xE910 form-factor family protects investments by offering complete pin-to-pin compatibility among companion products in GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSPA, HSPA+, CDMA 1xRTT, EV-DO, and, coming soon, LTE, with and without embedded GNSS capabilities.
