MIT Online X course on big data set to begin

Jan. 29, 2015

MIT Professional Education is offering an Online X course titled “Tackling the Challenges of Big Data” that begins next week. According to Clara Piloto, director global programs at MIT Professional Education, the course is part of MIT’s outreach to technology-driven enterprises and non-degree students. The course includes five modules covering 18 topic areas with 20 hours of video.

For all the professional education programs, Piloto said, the mission is consistent: to provide global access for companies and professionals to MIT science, technology, and research. MIT is not opening campuses around the world but is engaging in what she called “capacity building.” The global programs bring MIT curriculum and research directly to organizations, universities, and professionals who can’t travel to the Cambridge campus. At the same time, she said, the programs help students join the MIT global community and provide an incentive for some to take advantage of on-campus programs.
