500-W convection-cooled power supply offers 92% efficiency
Excelsys Technologies has announced the XS500 series of high-efficiency, 500-W convection-cooled AC/DC power supplies. With typical efficiency of 92%, and operating from 90 to 264 VAC, the XS500 delivers 500 W of output power without the need for forced-air cooling. The supply combines low-energy-loss topologies with high-efficiency design to keep component temperatures within the XS500 to a minimum, resulting in increased reliability and service life, which is backed by the Excelsys five-year warranty.
The XS500 is specifically designed to accommodate motors, pumps, fans, compressors, capacitor banks, and similar loads requiring very high instantaneous transient current delivery capabilities beyond 500 W at startup. The units are suitable for medical systems that stipulate low audible noise, and they find use in a range of industrial, laboratory, and high-reliability applications.
Offered with nominal outputs of 24 V/21 A and 48 V/10.5 A, the supplies include a wide-voltage adjustment range to easily accommodate non-standard system voltages via the on-board potentiometer and VTRIM functions. The XS500’s standard protection features and control signals include remote on/off, power fail, remote sense, and current-limit adjustment, as well as overvoltage, over-current, and overtemperature protection.
The Excelsys XS500 carries dual safety certification, EN60950 2nd Edition, for industrial applications, and EN60601-1 2nd and 3rd Edition for medical applications, meeting stringent creepage and clearance requirements. The series also provides input to output isolation of 4 kVAC, which allows hi-pot testing to be conducted on the complete power supply, simplifying system safety agency approvals. The XS500 is also qualified for 2 x MOPP (two Means of Patient Protection) and <300-μA leakage current, making it suitable for use in B (Body) and BF (Body Floating) types of medical applications.
Designed to meet MIL810G, the XS500 is also compliant with SEMI F47 for voltage dips and interruptions, and is compliant with all relevant EMC emission and immunity standards. Designed for use in hostile environments, the XS500 can withstand input surges of 4 kV and has been characterized to MIL461F with an external EMI filter for hi-rel/defense applications. Optional features include I2C digital communications and an OR-ing function for N+1 redundancy. It can also be conformal coated and ruggedized for use in harsh environments.
Base price is $225.00 each in OEM quantities.
