EDX Wireless and Remcom integrate wireless network design platforms

March 24, 2016

State College, PA. EDX Wireless and Remcom announce the integration of EDX’s SignalPro with Remcom’s Wireless InSite X3D ray-tracing beginning with the release of SignalPro version 8.3. The X3D model from Remcom uses GPU acceleration to reduce calculation time. The model includes effects from reflections, diffractions, and transmissions and serves a variety of service-area environments including urban, indoor, and indoor/outdoor. The X3D model is now available as an add-on product from EDX, allowing users to take advantage of these features in SignalPro projects.

“As networks evolve, it becomes critical to use planning models that consider the intricate nature of not only the networks themselves, but the service areas in which they are deployed,” said Roger Skidmore, CEO of EDX Wireless. “We are pleased to be able to offer the Remcom X3D module as part of our product line-up and take network planning to that next level.”

By using SignalPro with the X3D model, engineers are able to take into account the three dimensional features of the environment where wireless networks will be deployed, including building structures, floorplans, and terrain elevations. This approach to network modeling shows how signals interact with relevant features in the propagation environment and provides a comprehensive and highly accurate model of site specific network calculations. X3D’s exact path algorithm assures that predictions are accurate, and the GPU acceleration significantly reduces the time to complete predictive simulations.

“With the X3D model’s efficient ray tracing processing capabilities, users will be able to include more complex scene elements in their analyses without sacrificing run time,” said Ruth Silber Belmonte, product manager of Wireless InSite at Remcom. “X3D was developed to provide efficient and accurate predictions of propagation communication channel characteristics in complex environments.”

Remcom provides wireless propagation and electromagnetic simulation software for users in the wireless industry and government sectors. Remcom’s products are designed to work together to provide complete and accurate results when modeling propagation with real world devices in real world scenarios. Applications include prediction and assessment of wireless coverage and backhaul solutions, antenna design, radar propagation and scattering, evaluation of channel characteristics for communication links, estimation of bio/EM effects, simulation of MRI’s and microwave circuits, and many other types of analysis.
