Online configurator speeds power-supply optimization

Sept. 7, 2016

Cork, Ireland. Excelsys Technologies, a provider of modular user-configurable power supplies and platforms, has enhanced its online Power Supply Configurator to align with the newly introduced CoolX Series 600-W convection-cooled power supplies. It has also added options for searching for new capabilities, features, and functions offered by its Xgen, UltiMod, and Xsolo product lines. The enhanced online configurator enables system designers to quickly and cost-effectively define and build “instant” custom power supplies optimized for their specific application.

Excelsys’ user-configurable power supplies continue to evolve to address a range of medical, industrial, MIL-COTS, and other applications used in sensitive or harsh conditions. To keep pace with the products’ plug-and-play architectures and a growing selection of features, the enhanced Power Supply Configurator makes it easy for the user to simply select by input voltage, output power requirements, and safety-agency approvals. They can also add output control options, reverse fans, acoustic noise specifications, low-leakage current, conformal coating, and extra ruggedization.

Once a search is complete, the configurator applies any necessary deratings, based on input line and fan choices, and then recommends a tailored power supply recommendation optimized for the specific application. The part number generated by a search may be used to obtain the product from any Excelsys global channel partner. If the requirements of the project are outside the range of the configurator, the Excelsys application engineering team will usually be able to offer a solution based on two or more power supplies connected in series or in parallel.

“Our online configurator has been enhanced to reflect our revolutionary new fanless 600-W CoolX Series, as well as our evolving Xsolo, Xgen, and UltiMod user-configurable power supply product lines,” said Dermot Flynn, sales director of Excelsys Technologies. “Now systems engineers can save time building the best power supply for their application.”

Typical medical applications for the Excelsys user-configurable modular power supplies include clinical diagnostic equipment, medical and cosmetic lasers, dialysis equipment, radiological imaging, and clinical chemistry.

Industrial applications include test and measurement, industrial machines, automation equipment, printing, telecommunications, and audio equipment. They also find use in radar (naval and ground-based), IT, wafer fabrication, optical inspection, wire bonding, and automated test equipment.
