Designed to test price-sensitive consumer wireless components, the 3M20 LCRF flexible RF test system can be configured as one or two low-cost RF port modules capable of frequencies up to 2.7 GHz.

This system from Third Millennium Test Solutions conducts transmit-mode and receive-mode testing for amplifiers, mixers, trans- ceivers, transmitters, and complete digital RF communication subsystems. Testing of Bluetooth 802.11b devices and other advanced wireless components is possible, as the system covers the S-band industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) spectrum.

The 3M20 accommodates a variety of signal sources from leading vendors, delivering a full range of characterization, including error-corrected S-parameters. Analog, digital, and mixed-signal stimulus and measurement capabilities include analog-to-digital converter (ADC) channels to 1 Gsample/s, AWG channels to 40 Msamples/s, and as many as 16 channels of full-featured I/O operating at up to 20 MHz. Vector, timing generator, and Shmoo software tools are included as well.

Among the available options are modules for measurement of multi-port S-parameters (with dual directional couplers), high-power modules with built-in attenuators, noise figure modules with calibrated noise source, and modules with either mechanical or electronic switching components. Port modules may be configured with up to eight RF pins, depending on application requirements.

The 3M20's test head measures 12.5 by 16 by 23 in. Cost runs about $200,000, depending on configuration.
