Delivering up to 1.2 kW, the Model VSP6020 high-power switching dc power supply is housed in a 19" rack-mounted chassis that measures 1.75" high. It puts out 0 to 60V at 0 to 20A at an efficiency of 80% and noise levels under 20 mV. The voltage is controlled either manually via front-panel mounted 10-turn potentiometers and three digit meters or remotely by an RS-232 interface. Up to nine units can be cascaded, producing more than 10 kW of power. The supply uses a soft-switching technique to reduce switching noise; noise is minimized because switching devices have the smallest voltage levels across them when switching occurs. In addition, an integral RFI filter reduces conducted power-line noise emissions. An internal linear regulator following the conversion stage improves transient response to load changes and reduces output noise and ripple. Price is $1,725. B&K PRECISION CORP., Yorba Linda, CA.
