Signal Fading Simulator Profiles Mobile Handsets

Feb. 18, 2010
7100 Series digital radio test set is reportedly the first one-box test system for cell phone signal fading simulation
To accelerate real-world testing of mobile handsets for LTE networks, the 7100 Series digital radio test set is reportedly the first one-box test system for cell phone signal fading simulation. The radio test set and fading simulator combined with noise generators modify RF signals transmitted by the LTE system simulator and emulate degradations introduced into the radio channel by real-life obstacles. Fully repeatable test scenarios presented via the fading simulator include the emulation of dynamic environments and testing of MIMO scenarios. The fading simulator supports all LTE bandwidths to 20 MHz with a frequency range up to 6 GHz and all 3GPP fading profiles. Said to be unique, the 7100 Series digital radio test set supports both RF parametric and protocol testing for LTE terminal devices. It simulates a network from the physical layer to the core network IP infrastructure. Price for a typical 7100 Series test set with two RF carriers and 2x2 MIMO is approximately $100,000. The Fading Simulator (Option 101) is a software option and can be licensed and installed on units already in the field. Price is $10,000. AEROFLEX INC., Plainview, NY. (800) 835-2352.
