Ultrasonic Sensor Series Integrates IO-Link Communication

May 13, 2025
Carlo Gavazzi's new ultrasonic sensors offer flexibility, rugged durability, and increased accuracy, along with a compact design, to take on harsh environments.

What you'll learn:

  • Features of the UA12, UA18, and UA30 ultrasonic sensors, including configurable options.
  • Potential applications of the sensors.

Three new series of ultrasonic sensors from Carlo Gavazzi Automation come with integrated IO-Link communication designed for a range of industrial applications. The sensors outperform traditional offerings in contactless position and distance measurement, and can detect any target regardless of color, transparency, or surface.

The UA12, UA18, and UA30 (see figure) are built for use in harsh environments, offering resistance against extreme temperatures and providing protection against dust, steam, and fumes. According to the company, the ultrasonic sensors are available in both digital and combined versions, with a single digital and analog output. Only plug versions are available for distances that range from 20 to 6,000 mm.

The sensor's design advances provide a short blind zone and reduced footprint, providing high accuracy, versatility, and durability. Features include integrated IO-Link communication, streamlined stock requirements, reduced service calls, and predictive maintenance. Analog versions offer push-pull, NPN, PNP, teach-in, synchronized, or multiplexed options, while the digital versions have push-pull, NPN, PNP, and teach-in capabilities.

"Thanks to their compact design and all-in-one sensor technology, these ultrasonic sensors provide excellent performance and maximum flexibility, addressing the diverse needs of the industrial market," said Torben Rochat, International Product Manager.

He added, "With this launch, Carlo Gavazzi is expanding its portfolio for industries such as agriculture, plastic and rubber manufacturing, bulk material conveyors, and mobile equipment machinery. We developed these sensors to offer unparalleled flexibility, allowing them to meet specific application needs across these market segments."
