Ampifier Targets GSM/GPRS Markets

Promising ease of design to GSM/GPRS handset makers, the Si4300 CMOS power amplifier comes in a surface-mount package measuring 3.9 mm x 6.4 mm x 1.3 mm. Well-suited for space-constrained cellular applications, the device is said to reduce board space and component count by more than 70% when compared to current power-amplifier modules. It integrates all required functions between the transceiver and the antenna switch module including power-control circuitry, thermal- and load-mismatch protection, harmonic filtering, and input- and output-matching networks. Other reported features include GPRS Class 12 compatibility, low power-down current during receive and standby, and 3V to 5.5V operation. Available in an 18-pin land-grid array (LGA) package, pricing starts at $2.82 each/10,000. Samples are available now and volume production will begin in Q3. SILICON LABORATORIES INC., Austin, TX.
