WLAN Power Amplifier Raises Integration Bar

March 4, 2004
Claiming an unprecedented level of integration for 802.11a Wi-Fi systems, the SE2535 linear, 3-stage, 27-dBm power amplifier includes a power detector with all of the necessary analog biasing and matching circuitry in a QFN package measuring 4 mm x 4

Claiming an unprecedented level of integration for 802.11a Wi-Fi systems, the SE2535 linear, 3-stage, 27-dBm power amplifier includes a power detector with all of the necessary analog biasing and matching circuitry in a QFN package measuring 4 mm x 4 mm x 0.9 mm. The integrated power detector adjusts operating points to accommodate the peak-to-average power ratio. Setting the operating point allows power consumption to be reduced at any given time. Overall, the device consumes 160 mA at a power output of +18 dBm. It meets all 802.11a harmonic requirements and eliminates the need for external band-pass filtering. Other features include an error vector magnitude of less than 2.5% at 18 dBm. Price is $1.75 each/100,000. SIGE SEMICONDUCTOR, Ontario, Canada. (613) 820-9244.
