Engineering on Friday ‘toon: River Cleanup with Cat & Crow
River Cleanup! One Step at a Time.
Part three of my canceled environmental campaign. In this one, Cat & Crow were off to help with a river cleanup after a disaster. Crow reveals magical energy paws, much like how Cat has wings. This way Crow can pick up stuff. I didn’t want to do that classic cartoon bird where the feathers are essentially fingers.
This cartoon is special — I didn’t color it!
I actually hired/paid a professional colorist friend of mine to do all of the coloring. I asked them to really bump up the foreground elements, and, of course, our heroes. I said to work off the palette of the past images I made.
Typically, I color with very flat mono-color. Like just dropping the paint bucket. Even with my best cartoon ever (in my opinion) I posted last week. All flat. But my friend really adds a next-level look I could never replicate. Well, I mean, I could learn… but do I work on some electronics projects, coding, a Halloween costume for my son, OR learn how to color better?
Aren’t we all facing that same dilemma about doing this or that? Give your thoughts in the comments below (click this link to take you there). What are you struggling to work on?
I kept thinking of, and listening to, this song from Carole & Tuesday while working on the 'toon. It's an amazing music-based anime well worth watching.
