Two heat-resistant battery types have been developed for use in onboard tire-pressure monitoring systems mandated by new federal rules. The CR2450-HR and CR2450HR-EX high-temperature, lithium/magnesium-oxide (Li/MnO2) batteries incorporate a change in gasket materials, a new crimping structure, and improved content. As a result, they can operate in the harsh environment of rotating car and light-truck wheels. Nominal voltage is 3 V with a minimum lifespan of at least five years. The coin-type cells have a very high energy density. Pricing starts at about $1 each in OEM quantities.
